Do you miss receiving and sending greeting cards during the holiday season? Are you one of those that gets fewer greeting cards in the mail box and wondering why? Well, you're not alone because we are on the same track my dear!
Traditional greeting cards are once a year contact with your loved ones. It is coming from the sent or received Christmas card with a snow and a deer image on the card front page. Greeting cards need lots of your time. There are too many things to do when sending a card. You need to have the lists of those persons you will send greeting cards. Then, you will go out and buy greeting cards from the bookstores, and write down things you want to say to them. There are times you are writing shorter notes because there are still too many cards in line on your table, especially if you have a big family circle and they are far from one another. After that, you have to go out again, and send them one by one with stamps. Take note that your address book needed to be updated too or else, it will just be sent back to you. Our present teenagers will view it as time consuming and dull to make. Yes, it is really expensive, but the thoughts that were in it can’t be paid off with anything else, since it is made with pure love and labor too.
Nowadays, people are breaking that tradition. No one has the guts now to sit for hours and write to 50 cards and more. Because of the introduction of social media, the public have switched to e-cards and the social media like Instagram, Twitter, were sending their messages through the platforms. People are now preferring to say happy birthday, hi and hello and Merry Chirstmas to their friends through the social media. Everyone is so used to the personally made fun e-card that will take you only five minutes to make one. Really quick and easy, isn’t it? The pop culture expert Bob Thompson, states that there are benefits to becoming digital. The number of people that was on your greeting card lists, are now your social media friends. Today, you don't hear from them during Christmas time only. You can now hear from them regularly, and comment or like instantly their life events and pictures.
Greeting card companies like Hallmark, are also promoting and selling e-cards online now. They need to go with the flow and advancement of the digital age. Their updates here are much more regular than they were in the Christmas card world. Companies are replying by giving a more quicker and convenient online option. The generation Y, or millennial generation, appears to be a force corroding the custom greeting cards. Experts say that most of those individuals who missed the previous ways of greeting cards, were mostly being the persons who grew up together with it. They are all about 40 years old by now and they're those people keeping the greeting card business companies.
Sad to say, it is really a different time now. It becomes so commercialized with a different type of connection. A kind and a piece is lost, that an almost tradition is diminishing. I think that the public will still send greeting cards. Christmas greeting cards and birthday cards will not really go away, but rather will just go to have a break or a snap for a while.
