If you are a Filipino, you are familiar with the famous song of Parokya Ni Edgar entitled Harana. The Filipino old custom of serenading their dream girl is through “Harana”. Writing love letters, reciting poems, composing romantic love songs, and gift-giving are also ways of wooing by Filipino suitors. Another means of courtship is by doing that dull traditional servitude or the “paninilbihan”, wherein chores for the family is completed by the suitor. He is expected to take water coming from the manual pump, bring it inside the house, and cut small woods for cooking. This is the ways for the suitor to show to the family that his intentions are good and there is no hardship or hindrances that can hold him back out. This is really a requirement in the traditional courtship of Filipinos.
