National Grandparents Day is a holiday observed in the UK and in the US since 1978 and it is officially identified in other countries on different dates of the year.
THE HISTORY
Marian McQuade is a native of West Virginia in Oak Hill, who hoped to start the national day of our grandparents, and she started the campaign and became the founder of National Grandparents Day in 1970. McQuade prepared it to be her goal to inform today’s youth about the main contributions seniors have given to our community throughout the history. She also advised the youth if they can be able to adopt a grandparent, not only for a day or a year, but instead for a lifetime.

In 1973, Sen. Jennings Randolph initiates a declaration in the senate to announce the Grandparents' Day as one of the national holiday and the Governor Arch Moore of West Virginia had proclaimed this as a holiday for the state through the advice of Marian McQuade.
In February 1977, Sen. Randolph presented the joint declaration into the senate, demanding the president to give annually a proclamation assigning that after Labor Day, every first Sunday of September will be the National Grandparents' Day. It passed in the Congress legislation and signed it on August 3, 1978 by President Jimmy Carter. Every year, the president announced the proclamation to carry on with the tradition. The statute named the day's purpose is to honor grandparents, to assist their children be guided of the information, strength, and the guidance older people may offer, and to give grandparents the chance to show their love for their grandchildren.
THE MUSIC
In 2004, the Council of Chula Vista, California of the National Grandparents Day declared that the official song for grandparents would be “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa from the album of Johnny Prill. The Council of the National Grandparents' Day gave Prill an award as a token of appreciation and gratitude with his composition of the song, “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa”.

Forget-me-not is the chosen flower to celebrate with the National Grandparents Day which blooms during spring season. As an outcome, seasonal flowers were provided to give our appreciation with our grandparents on this special day.

THE ACTIVITIES
The truth is, most of our grandparents really don’t care about what activity they should do during their special day. Every grandparent just want some quality time to spend with their grandchildren and children as well. Either, you want to spend it by doing together their favorite hobbies, or going to places where there are special events holds for Grandparents Day events; the most important thing for them is that, you remember them on this special day, aside from their birthday. It makes even more special when they celebrate it best with their family, and that includes you, your children and your parents all together as a family celebrating with each other, making memories by enjoying each other’s company.
Be it a Grandparent Day or not, everyday should be celebrated with your family because each one of you will not be around for each other for a lifetime. Take the time to give honor to your grandparents each day and always remember that it is always the thought that will be count!
